- Manchester Evening News
PC as Peter Collins is known to his friends worldwide, became the
world speedway champion in 1976 at the tender age of 22 in front
of a 120,000 strong crowd at Slaski Stadium in Chorzow, Poland. He
suffered a broken leg in 1977, just before the final speedway event
in Gothenburg, Sweden, which left him unable to claim a second world

achieve a Runners-up position. He still holds one of the greatest
records in Speedway racing - a career spanning over 18 years.

2001, for services to motorcycle racing - Peter's career includes
10 world titles - a record for an Englishman - 5 team titles, 4
pairs titles, a record number of appearances for England of 137 and the individual world crown in 1976.
Nowadays, Peter runs Vintage Cars from Knutsford in Cheshire, and continues
his involvement with speedway as a commentator for Sky Sports.
